The Greek travel agency sector saw turnover rise of 25.4 percent in the first quarter of 2018, compared to the corresponding period of 2017.

Citing data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), the Federation of Hellenic Associations of Tourist & Travel Agencies (FEDHATTA) said on Tuesday that the turnover of Greek travel agencies during the first three months of the year recorded the largest increase on an annual basis since 2010.

The federation said that the data showed the strong rise in demand of travelers for holiday in Greece.

“Greek tourism this year is developing its full potential and we must acknowledge that its benefits are shown throughout the Greek economy,” FedHATTA said in an announcement.

“Travel agencies are the backbone of tourism and therefore their economic figures depict the fluctuations in tourism demand. The first quarter indicated the increased demand and derives from the quality services our sector offers to the benefit of Greek tourism,” the federation added.
