Minister Kountoura Discusses Tourism Development of Greek Islands
The tourism development of the Greek islands and the strengthening of cruise tourism were the main topics discussed in a meeting held in Athens on Thursday between Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura and the Secretary General for the Aegean and Island Policy, Yiannis Yiannelis.
According to an announcement, the main priorities for the tourism development of the Greek islands were discussed and Minister Kountoura was briefed by Mr Yiannelis on the important role of the recently founded Council for Island Policy.
The council will function as an advisory and consultative body to the Prime Minister on the basic principles of policy development in the various sectors of economic and social development of the Greek islands, but also on the planning and implementation of island policies.
Also discussed during the meeting were the significant prospects and growth potential of cruise tourism on the island of Lesvos.
