Costa Navarino True to its Pledge of Safeguarding Wildlife
As part of its responsible tourism and sustainability practices, Costa Navarino is aiming through synergies to protect the ecosystems and rare biodiversity of the Messinia region, where it is located.
Through its collaborations with wildlife protection NGOs Archelon and Societas Hellenica Herpetelogica (SHH), Costa Navarino has made its own contribution to the protection of the endangered loggerhead sea turtle Caretta caretta and the African Chameleon, which are both native to the region.
For its efforts and environmentally friendly operations, Costa Navarino was awarded the Tourism for Tomorrow Award in 2014 by the World Travel & Tourism Council.
“Since the first year of Costa Navarino’s operation, during the summer of 2010, Archelon established a joint cooperation with the destination market to protect the Loggerhead sea turtle Caretta caretta on Romanos beach,” Archelon Director Theodore Benos-Palmer said.
“Our efforts are complemented by rendering information to the visitors and organizing events related to environmental sustainability in order to preserve these rare species, which are a part of Messinian natural heritage.”
