Greek tourism is going through an important period of global recognition. It is featured in a top position of the global market, plays a leading role for all that it offers and remains a competitor against other renowned destinations.
Tourism figures based on statistical data unquestionably prove its upward trend. Millions of visitors come to the country and depart satisfied while having left behind “imported money” to the market.
The sector has become enriched with products and services. It has quality and can offer numerous choices to satisfy every socio-economic visitor profile. Its multi-diversity constitutes a distinctive competitive advantage.
It is acknowledged that the tourism field brings benefits. It is distinguished among others, prevails and is included in the pillars that boost the economy, as its earnings are spread throughout the market, added to public income and strengthen the Greek economy and society.
It is obvious that the constant upward trend of the sector, a result of the long cooperation between state and citizens, greatens the responsibility of all those that contribute to its progress for its positive course to continue.
Towards this direction, the ministry implements and continues to carry out an integrated reinforcement plan for the sector, as announced by Minister Yiorgos Stathakis and Alternate Minister Elena Kountoura.
The aim of this effort is to further support the sector with new data, open to new markets and absorb know-how from other advanced countries. Within this framework, we aim to further enrich the level of offered services, to broaden the thematic sections – tourism forms – and finally to further highlight our competitive advantages.
Gaining success in performance and accomplishing records in quality and offered services, constitutes a continuous claim that we succeed by raising the bar even higher with the cooperation of tourism professionals, local authorities, regions and those involved directly or indirectly with Greek tourism.
By following this “direction” we can claim an even higher market share on the world tourism map, an even higher position in the global rankings. At the same time we strengthen the reference basis that we have accomplished today and are included among the top choices of travellers.
In addition, through specific actions we try to constantly lead tourism consumption towards domestic production, with an aim to further increase the positive impact of tourism on the economy.
The prospects are right in front of us and I believe that they are better than today. Greece has steady friends. Greece has strong inextricable relations and cooperations with other countries that continue a long tradition of “trust” in regards to what our country has to offer. We have potential friends, those we aim to meet from the so called “new markets”, who, through international relations, we get to know, prepare the right conditions and create infrastructure, so other countries can get to know Greece and include on their list of tourism choices.
It is important that today we are supporting investments in tourism and are forming a targeted policy to reinforce infrastructure for tourism growth, we are creating a steady and friendly institutional framework for the field to develop.
Greece remains a challenge for every visitor. It constitutes a powerful “brand”. Greece’s tourism is a unique advantage. It is the field that forms contemporary civilization, contributes to friendship and peace among nations, brings together other “cultures”, bridges different opinions, pays off in the economy and supports the social prosperity and balance.
For that matter, moral and cautious approach is initially required, followed by strict technocratic and scientific interventions.
