Mabrian: Flight Costs to Greece Among the Top 5 Highest in Europe
The cost of flying to Greece is among the highest in Europe after Portugal and Spain and together with Turkey and Italy, found data released this week by tourism analytics firm Mabrian.
Overall, according to data comparing average monthly air fares (taxes and fees included) from 157 countries for the July 2021 to June 2023 period, flight prices have increased by 31 percent globally in the last 24 months.
Key findings of the study include:
– the prices of flights on legacy airlines have increased by 40 percent
– the price of flights on low-cost airlines have risen by 6 percent
– the Top 5 most expensive destinations to travel to by plane from anywhere in the world are: Qatar, Mali, Jordan, Panama and Sudan
– the Top 5 cheapest destinations to fly to are: Bolivia, Slovakia, Malaysia, Nepal and Colombia
– Northern Europe, Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, and Asia are the regions where the average prices have risen the most
– in Northern Europe, where none of the countries have returned to 2021 levels, the most expensive country to travel to right now is the Netherlands, followed by the UK
– countries in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean have increased their prices, with Portugal currently being the most expensive country to travel to, followed by Spain, Greece, Turkey and Italy
– in North America, Canada is the country with the most expensive flights, followed by the United States.
Mabrian Chief Marketing Officer Carlos Cendra attributes the price hikes to the “the fact that the aviation industry has suffered a strong impact from increased costs in recent years that has been transferred to prices as well as the inevitable effect of inflation”.
Cendra goes on to add that the main factor is the soaring rise in the price of fuel, which represents between 15 percent and 35 percent of airline operating costs.
And when you arrive in Greece you will find it’s the most expensive destination as a tourist. Portugal being the cheapest.
