The deputy head of the visa policy unit of the European Commission, Diederik Paalman, appeared quite defensive during the conference, held recently at the new Acropolis Museum, on the Schengen visa process. Mr. Paalman brushed off all negative opinions expressed by tourism figures and urged member states to improve staff coverage in embassies and consulates and to open up new visa centers in remote cities to reduce visa-waiting times at centers.
