The new development law in reality excludes the modernization of low class hotels, which form the backbone of the hotel industry, President of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels Yiorgos Tsakiris said last month at a media briefing.
International arrivals at major airports of Greece for the first five months of 2009 showed a decrease of 8.85 percent over the same period of 2008, the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises recently announced.
The Research Institute for Tourism and Forecasts (ITEP) expects arrivals to fall at least by 4.24 percent this year, while tourist traffic from traditional markets are predicted to drop by 4.58 percent.
