The Greek government said actions were being taken to ‘clean up’ the railway system so that it could ‘likely’ resume services by the end of the month in ‘absolute safety’.
The European Commission clarified that Greece had been referred to the European Court of Justice in February for failure to meet its obligations under the Single European Railway Area Directive.
Measures, similar to those that were introduced to curb the spread of the coronavirus during the Easter holiday, are expected to apply for the May Day three-day weekend in Greece.
