Outgoing US President Barack Obama will be in Athens on Tuesday and Wednesday, and will meet with government officials to discuss among other things ways for Greece to be given “meaningful debt relief” in efforts to offer the Greek people hope.
EU leaders failed on Thursday, to agree to the Commission’s proposals for a new border and coastguard patrol, instead pledging to work towards ensuring more efficient registration and security checks of refugees.
Germany is turning to Turkey in efforts to overcome the mounting refugee crisis by offering its support to the country’s EU membership bid and easing visa controls for Turkish travelers.

Greek tourism is making a comeback this year in an otherwise flat European market, held back by the weak economic climate, travel industry executives said recently on occasion of the ITB Berlin trade show taking place in Germany.
“Greece is still one of the most popular destinations for German holidaymakers and at the same time a European challenge,” it was mentioned at a session on Greek tourism during the ITB Berlin Convention on Friday, 8 March.
When opening the ITB Berlin trade show on Tuesday, 5 March, German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on trade fair visitors to take holidays in ailing euro zone states such as Greece, Spain, Portugal and Italy to help create jobs.
