Santorini is the World’s Most Popular European Holiday Destination
Santorini, Greece has been declared the most popular European holiday destination in the world, according to a recent research report published by CV Villas, an international travel company.
The experts at CV Villas conducted a comprehensive study using Google data from the past year across 185 countries. They analyzed the search trends for phrases such as “holiday in [destination]” or “vacation in [destination]” to determine the most frequently searched European Union holiday destinations.
After comparing the Google searches for 106 European Union destinations in various languages, they identified the most popular destination in each country.
According to the data, Santorini, renowned for its picturesque blue-domed churches and breathtaking sunsets, claimed the top spot as the most sought-after European holiday destination worldwide. Travel enthusiasts from 47 out of the 185 analyzed countries showed significant interest in Santorini.
Following Santorini on the list were Ibiza, Tenerife, and Sicily.
Among all the countries, Greece had the highest number of destinations featured in the global rankings.
6 Greek destinations in top 15
Following Santorini’s lead, were Corfu (5th), Kos (6th), Mykonos (9th), Crete (10th), and Zakynthos (14th), making a total of six Greek destinations in the top 15 most popular European holiday destinations worldwide. Spain was the only other country that came close, with four of its destinations ranking high in vacation searches across the globe.
Moreover, Santorini also emerged as the most searched European holiday destination in Africa, with search dominance in 15 countries, including South Africa, Cameroon, and Ethiopia. It also remained the number one choice for tourists from Asia and Oceania.
The research showed that Corfu was the preferred destination for tourists from Peru, France, and Albania, while Kos attracted visitors from Norway, Germany, and Poland. Mykonos proved to be a popular choice for tourists from Afghanistan and Côte d’Ivoire. Crete stood out among North Macedonians and Hungarians, while Zakynthos was favored by Slovakians.
