July Sports and Culture Events in Greece Promise Unique Experiences
Events focused on culture and sports are scheduled to take place in July in various Greek destinations with the support of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).
The activities, according to the GNTO, promote Greece’s tourism offerings and highlight the country’s diverse travel experiences.
17th Posidonia
The 17th Posidonia cultural and sports event will run in Patra, Aigio, and neighboring municipalities until July 13.
This year’s event includes the 17th World Festival of Traditional Dances and Music, the 3rd European Children’s Festival of Traditional Dances, the 3rd World Congress of Folklore and Olympism, international music and gastronomy festivals, the 3rd Helikonos Poseidon International Hill Climb, an international beach volleyball tournament, and the crossing of the Vouraikos River Gorge. Groups and athletes from Greece and countries across Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa will participate.
4th Samos Arts Festival
The 4th Samos Arts Festival – Eastern Edge, organized by the Municipality of Western Samos, the Aegean University, the State Archives Organization, the Schwarz Foundation, and local cultural institutions, recently kicked off on Samos.
Running until November, the festival will include historical walks, art exhibitions at various locations on the island, film screenings, theater performances, concerts, and a scientific conference on the industrial past of the town of Karlovassi. The festival aims to explore themes related to the island’s past, including local politics, daily life, and the island’s cultural journey.
Aegean 600
The international open water sailing race Aegean 600 will take place from July 7-15 covering a 600 nautical miles route without stops, starting and finishing in the Sounion area.
Over 600 sailors are expected to participate, representing 45 boats from 17 countries. The Aegean 600 is part of the Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge circuit of the International Maxi Association and will feature 11 maxi sailing boats known for their high speeds. The race is organized by the Panhellenic Open Water Sailing Club, with the Attica Region and the Olympic Marina of Lavrio as co-organizers.
Hephaestus North Aegean Basketball 3 on 3
This year’s basketball tournament “Hephaestus North Aegean Basketball 3 on 3” will take place from July 21 to 23 in the old port of Myrina on the island of Lemnos.
The tournament, which has gained international recognition as a sports tourism event, is organized by the island’s basketball team and will feature matches at an impressive Olympic-sized 3 on 3 court.
The tournament includes games for boys and girls’ teams aged 9-12 (Juniors), boys aged 12-18 (Rising Stars), men aged 18 and over (Elite), women aged 12 and over (Ladies), and veterans aged 40 and over. International and veteran athletes will also participate in exhibition games.
