Uber Launches On-demand Boat Service on Mykonos Island, Greece
Ride-hailing company Uber recently announced that it will launch a new seasonal private charter boat service on the Greek island of Mykonos.
Available from mid-June to October, “Boat” will be an on-demand service operated by a local licensed operator and available through the Uber app. The local operator will provide services locally, sub-licensing Uber technology.
According to Uber, app users will be able to book speedboat tours at the touch of a button to move easily around Mykonos.
“The ‘Boat’ will offer Greek and foreign visitors a new way to explore and travel to the best beaches and spots of Mykonos through a unique and reliable alternative transportation solution,” said Uber Greece General Manager Sarita Varouch during the company’s annual product launch event, Go-Get 2023, held in New York on Wednesday.
Greece is the first country in Europe where Uber has launched its new boat service.
“We chose Greece because we are strongly committed to the country and want to help local operators take advantage of the strong opportunities that come from domestic and incoming tourism,” Varouch said.
Committed to providing additional support to local businesses through innovative approaches, Uber said it is expanding its collaboration with local partners to offer transportation services using its platform.
“We are very excited to offer a ground-breaking service on our app for the first time this year, during a year when tourism is expected to reach record levels,” Varouch added.
Uber expanded to Greece in 2014.
