Greece and Athens See Ratings Rise for Travel Experience in Q1
The overall visitor experience as indicated by traveler satisfaction ratings across indexes places Greece and Athens high among rival cities and countries in terms of reputation, according to the latest Athens/Greece Sentiment Tracker released by INSETE, the research body of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), in collaboration with TCI Research.
Greece has so far in Q1 managed to remain competitive in terms of overall traveler experience exceeding the European average with regard to visitor satisfaction, sun & beach destinations, and culture & seaside activities.
More specifically, according to INSETE, in the first quarter of 2023, Greece garnered an overall rating of 9.17 and Athens 9.13 driven by positive ratings for culture, restaurants, sea, shopping and accommodation.
Other key takeaways of the report which assesses visitor ratings in Greece, Italy and Spain in terms of net sentiment score (NSI) include:
–top scores were awarded by Americans followed by travelers from the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, France and Italy.
–Athens’ score was strong in Q1 2023 for gastronomy and hospitality
-scores for both Greece and Athens were high bolstered by interest in gastronomy, culture, sustainability and hospitality
-Greece scored above the European average in terms of “Value for Money” and “Sustainable Travel”.
On the down side, the tragic train accident in Tempi, Central Greece, followed by strikes and demonstrations had a negative effect on overall reputation and ratings (NSI) in Q1 for both Athens and Greece but there are signs of a steady recovery.
At the same time, Greece’s scores for sanitary safety and pandemic precautions fell to 5.59 and 3.37 after the country dropped mask rules.
