Registrations Open for Run Bike Care Event in Athens
Registrations are now open for this year’s Run Bike Care event, scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 11, in the center of Athens.
Organized by the Association of Cancer Patients “KEFI of Athens,” the event aims to raise awareness and funding for the “Mazi kai sto Spiti” (“Together at Home”) program, which seeks to improve the quality of life for oncology patients and their families who are unable to leave their homes.
The Run Bike Care 2023 event will feature a 5-kilometer run or walk and a 10-kilometer bike ride, with a start and finish point at Zappeion Hall.
Apart from Athens, the action will also take place nationwide in Thessaloniki, Larissa, Lamia, Syros, Chania, Gythio, and other locations across Greece.
People of all ages and abilities are invited to take part in this event, either as individuals or as a team, and participants can register for the event at https://bit.ly/3AMabjK.
The event is not a competition, and participants can choose to run, walk, or take their bike, putting into practice the message of KEFI: “We Run Faster Than Cancer.”
The Run Bike Care 2023 will be supported by several sports and arts personalities, including Nasos Ghavelas, Paralympic gold medalist in 100m; Makis Kalaras, Paralympic silver medalist; Periklis Iakovakis, Olympian and European champion in 400 meters with hurdles; Constantine Dean Karnazes, Greek-American Ambassador of Greek Tourism, ultra-marathoner; and Maria Polyzou, a survivor, marathon runner, and holder of the Greek National Marathon Performance record.
The proceeds from the event will finance the “Mazi kai sto Spiti” program, which offers free psychological and social support to oncology patients and their family members who are unable to leave their homes. The program has been operational since September 2018 and has been supporting people in their homes ever since.
The Run – Bike – Care is an action of celebration for all those who have survived cancer and in memory of those who have passed away. It is an opportunity to unite the voices of all people who have experienced cancer with the message “Together we fight – Together we bike – Together we run.”
