Athens Among Top 10 European Cities Trending with US Travelers
Athens has made it to the top 10 destinations in Europe for US travelers this summer, as reported by the Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC).
Established in 1985 in the US, the company offers ticket transaction settlement services between airlines and travel agencies, both traditional and online.
With over 230 airlines, 10,700 travel agencies, and 13,000 points of sale, ARC’s air transaction data and reporting are considered among the most comprehensive and up-to-date in the industry, providing a unique insight into where people are booking to fly and when.
According to ARC’s data, which is based on travel between Memorial Day to Labor Day, Athens has recorded a 52 percent increase in bookings from US-based travelers compared to 2022.
As a result, the Greek capital has secured its position as the 9th most popular European city that Americans want to travel to this summer.
Furthermore, Istanbul and the Netherlands have showcased the highest year-on-year increase, with 183 and 130 percent, respectively. Other popular European destinations for US travelers this summer include London, Rome, Paris, Keflavik, Barcelona, Madrid, and Dublin.
“Where we’re seeing really strong demand is for Europe, from the US. At this point last year, there were still some restrictions in place; now that the restrictions are lifted, we’ve seen the demand rush back,” said Steve Solomon, ARC’s Chief Commercial Officer.
