Kyllini Port Authority Grants License for Seaplane Port
Hellenic Seaplanes has been awarded the license to establish a seaplane port in Kyllini, Peloponnese, the company announced.
More specifically, under the concession deal following the tender procedure launched by the Kyllini Port Authority, Hellenic Seaplanes will construct and manage the Kyllini Seaplane port.
The company aims through the operation of the Kyllini, Kalamata and Patra seaplane ports to contribute to the development of Western Greece creating much-needed transport infrastructure.
“The Kyllini waterway has entered the final stretch. Kyllini is the first area in Ilia to have a waterway which is a milestone for the entire prefecture,” said Andravida-Kyllini Mayor Giannis Lentzas.
In addition to offering transport services between the mainland and the Ionian islands to residents and tourists, the project is expected to contribute to the local economy, create jobs and pave the way for new business partnerships.
“The construction of the waterway will be a key pillar of development for Kyllini while it will also optimize its port; with the arrival of seaplanes, passenger and cargo flights will be carried out to and from other neighboring areas and islands of the Ionian,” said Hellenic Seaplanes Chairman and Managing Director Nicolas Charalambous.
He went on to add that the creation of a network of seaplane ports across Greece was an innovative investment opportunity, creating significant development prospects locally but also for the country as a whole which will contribute greatly to the strengthening of Greece’s tourism product through the introduction of a new flexible means of transport, both to increase the number of routes to popular tourist destinations and to highlight new ones.
Actions are now being taken for a similar licensing process for the construction of seaplane ports on Ithaca and Kefalonia.
