Costa Navarino to Open NBA Basketball School
Popular luxury resort Costa Navarino in Messinia, Greece, announced this week that it had entered a multiyear agreement with the National Basketball Association (NBA) to launch an NBA Basketball School combining premium hospitality and FIBA compliant basketball facilities at Navarino Dunes.
The NBA Basketball School is scheduled to open in May offering one-, three- and five-day packages to aspiring young players aged 6 and over. For the first time, the school will also be open to adults.
Besides having the unique opportunity to train with elite coaches, participants will receive an NBA Basketball School-branded certificate and will have the chance to win a range of prizes.
The launch event will take place on June 8 and include on-court programing and appearances by NBA players. Registration for activities beginning on May 15 are open here
The NBA basketball development program at Costa Navarino will cover on-court training, skill development and basketball education for all skill levels.
“We’re thrilled to expand our sports offering and collaborate with the world’s preeminent basketball association,” said TEMES Managing Director Stephanos Theodorides. “The prestigious NBA Basketball School program will enhance Costa Navarino’s position as a leading sports destination. This agreement creates a strong proposition for both young and adult players, combining a world-class coaching program with exceptional hospitality and leisure facilities in a unique year-round destination.”
On his part, NBA Associate Vice President of Basketball Operations, Europe and Middle East Neal Meyer said: “We’re excited to tip off this collaboration with Costa Navarino as part of our continued commitment to growing basketball at the grassroots level in Greece and across the region.”
“Our goal through this program is to inspire and create more opportunities for players of all ages to learn the fundamentals and core values of the game, including teamwork, leadership and respect,” Meyer said.
The NBA Basketball School curriculum has been designed by the league’s International Basketball Operations department in consultation with current and former NBA coaches, players and player development specialists.
