Casino License Next Step for Crete’s Gournes Project
Greece’s Gaming Commission announced that by the end of the year the licensing procedure for the casino in Gournes, Crete is set to be announced.
Earlier this year, Greek company REDS SA, an Ellaktor Group subsidiary, purchased a property located on the former US military base in Gournes, Hersonissos on Crete.
Under the contract, REDS SA will over the next five years together with international and domestic investors implement a series of investments including the creation of a luxury hotel, conference space, residences and shopping center, budgeted at over 210 million euros and set to boost Greek state coffers significantly.
Under the deal, the company can also develop a casino. According to the gaming commission, a draft of the tender is expected to go up for public consultation in the summer and by July a draft of the competition should be ready so in September it can again open for deliberation.
According to Hellenic Gamic Commission President Dimitris Ntzanatos, the tender for the casino license should be launched by January 2024 at the latest. Still pending are agreements concerning additional investments to be made by the holder of the casino license in Gournes.
Please be careful with the casino route. You might want to connect with Zermatt in Switzerland and check with their local community council what happened to their community and who came just to gamble.
Not a happy story, disruptive and although relatively short term damaging to the people who live there and to the Zermatt brand.
