Skiathos Island to Host Annual Match Race Sailing Event in May
The 6th Skiathos Palace Cup, a popular match race sailing event in Greece, will take place this year on the island of Skiathos in May.
The coveted sports event, taking place on Skiathos since 2016, will be held during May 5-7 on Koukounaries beach, one of the most famous, awarded beaches in the Mediterranean and a rare, protected wetland under the Natura 2000 network umbrella.
The unique sailboat match race combines intense sea activity in a natural setting characterized by its golden sand, sea and pine forest stretching to the shore
Luxurious Greek hospitality will also be part of the 6th Skiathos Palace Cup and offered by the Skiathos Palace, the event’s grand sponsor, to participants, guests and journalists covering the race.
Parallel to the races at sea, the beach of Koukounaries will host recreational water sports, cocktail parties and other supportive events during the three-day event.
Since 2019, the Skiathos Palace Cup is part of the Hellenic Match Racing Tour with events taking place around Greece throughout the year.
In addition, in 2019, the race was awarded the Sail Green or GO Home award for its participation in the ecological action of Skiathos. It has also been designated as a “Clean Regatta” in the Bronze category by Sailors for the Sea.
Trinity Events, a company specializing in maritime events, is the event’s manager while the Skiathos Nautical Club and the Thessaly Region organize the cup under the auspices of the Skiathos municipality, the Hellenic Sailing Federation and the Skiathos Cultural Club.
