Greek Destinations Among The Telegraph’s Top 50 Hotspots for Family Holidays
A number of Greek island and mainland destinations are among the travel hotspots that The Telegraph suggests on its “50 fabulous family holidays for 2023” list.
The Telegraph’s list was inspired by the return to restriction-free long-haul travel that will allow families to share holidays together and offer their younger members new experiences.
The suggested destinations on the list are divided into five categories: Babies and toddlers; Primary schoolers; Tweens; Teenagers; and All Ages. Each category offers a different Greek holiday suggestion.
For the first category, The Telegraph’s journalist Laura Fowler turned to family-travel specialist Liddy Pleasants, founder of Stubborn Mule, who recommends Crete as “a perfect destination for families with very young children”.
Pleasants hails Crete’s varied accommodation and children-friendly hospitality (‘filoxenia’ in Greek), while mentioning that “couples can strap their babies to the back and try out a village stroll, a swim, a walk or a farm stay on the island”.
Moreover, families with primary schoolers can try out the new Ikos Odisia resort on Corfu. Opening May, the resort will offer a unique combination of relaxation and dining options for adult family members and a series of activities and watersports, kid’s clubs, a beach, and 10 pools spread around the 60-acre estate “to keep children busy and happy”.
When it comes to tweens (children between the ages of approximately eight and twelve), The Telegraph proposes island-hopping as a holiday solution, mentioning Olympic Holidays’ new Circle of Athens itinerary which sees travelers visiting Athens, Syros, Tinos and Andros.
Moving on to the demanding teenagers “who want to socialize and keep away from their parents during holidays”, The Telegraph turned to Travel experts at UK’s Red Savannah travel agency who recommend a holiday at Kassiopi on Corfu.
The fishing village, located on the island’s north-east coast, boasts many bars tavernas as well as a beach with a beach club and water sports and a harbor where one can rent boats for short trips in the surrounding area.
When it came to the “All Ages” category The Telegraph suggests the Sani Resort in Halkidiki with activities including the Chelsea FC Football Academy and Nadal Tennis Center and Costa Navarino in Peloponnese which features the Mouratoglou Tennis Center and FC Bayern Football Camp.
All ages will also enjoy the Ionian Islands, according to the Telegraph with recommendations including the Peligoni Club on Zakynthos (camps and watersports including sailing) and the Eliámos Villa Hotel on Kefalonia’s south-west coast that offers cookery classes and food workshops, and activities such as cycling, canoeing, paddle boarding and yoga.
The Telegraph is the third most visited newspaper website in the UK with 1.7 million daily browsers.
