Crete is expected to be among the world’s top trending destinations in 2023 with a focus on active tourism, nature and wellbeing, according to travel intelligence services provider Mabrian Technologies.
Crete ranked second after Bali and before Algarve in a survey which forecasts trends for 2023 based on tourism offer, connectivity and hotel prices.
More specifically, the report takes into consideration the destination’s share in active, natural and wellness tourism, new air route growth, air capacity growth, capacity per quarter and average hotel prices.
According to the study, which assessed more than 700 destinations around the world and is based on TripAdvisor traveler interactions, Crete has a 57 percent share in active, natural and wellness tourism, marked a 15 percent growth in new air routes, a 16.77 percent rise in air capacity growth compared to last year both for domestic and international routes, with average hotel prices at 86.05 euros.
According to Mabrian analysts, travelers are expressing a growing interest in tourism activities related to nature, active and wellness tourism – a trend that has increased since 2019 and is set to grow further.
The leading 10 trending destinations in 2023 were Bali, Crete, Algarve (Portugal), Bretagne and Corsica (France), Wales (UK), Sardinia (Italy), Antalya (Turkey), Maldives and Sicily (Italy).
