Greece Enters Top 20 Nation Brands Index 2022
Greece managed a top 20 placing on the Nations Brands Index 2022 list recently published by Anholt-Ipsos.
The index is an annual study that has been conducted since 2008, gathering perceptions of countries around the world. This year the survey collected over 60,000 interviews online in 20 panel countries with adults aged 18 or over.
Compared to 2021, Greece moved one spot breaking into the top 20 ranking.
According to the survey, Germany remained at the top position in 2022 while Japan claimed the second spot and Canada fell to third. Italy and France rounded up the top 5.
Commenting on the results, Ipsos CEO Ben Page underlined that “chaos damages countries’ reputations, and stability is rewarded,” with Britain dropping out of the top five for the first time since the index was launched and Russia dropping from 27th place last year to 58th.
“If Germany is an unexciting country to some, overall it remains world number one yet again. In uncertain times, there is something to be said for predictability” added Page.
Other key findings of the survey, include:
- Switzerland (#7), the United States (#8), Sweden (#9), and Australia (#10) all retain their top-10 rankings from 2021, despite above-average declines in score.
- Overall desire to visit the Index’s nations has decreased in 2022 after a large 2021 increase.
- Desire to invest in NBI nations has declined to the lowest levels seen since 2016.
Echoing some of the Index’s findings, Ipsos also recently published its first European Barometer on Poverty and Precariousness where 1 in 4 Europeans say that they are currently in a precarious economic situation due to inflation and the cost-of-living crisis.
