Spanish hospitality giant Melia Hotels International is aiming to double its portfolio of hotels in Greece by 2025, said the company’s head of Development for South Europe, Jorge Herrera.

Herrera announced the news during his visit to Greece for the IDEEA Hospitality Investment Forum. “Greece is a destination of strategic importance for us at Melia Hotels International. We seek to expand our presence in the country both through management partnerships and franchises with the aim of doubling the group’s properties in the Greek territory by 2025,” said Herrera.

The group already operates four hotels in Greece: the Melia Athens, Sol Cosmopolitan on Rhodes and on Crete the Sol Marina Beach Crete and Blue Sea Beach.

The company is now interested in entering new management and franchise deals with the aim of expanding its commercial activities and direct online sales.

The plan focuses on working with independent hotels and providing these with access to Melia Hotels International sales and marketing network, as well as to the 14 million member-strong MeliáRewards rewards program along with other services tailored to their needs.

At the same time, it seeks to provide consulting services both to hotels that are just taking their first steps and to facilities that require renovation, assisting owners in everything from planning to operations.

The group specializes in leisure and hybrid leisure travel (a mix of travel for business and leisure) and prioritizes sustainability and genuine experiences.

In this direction, the group went ahead with the design of the “Travel For Good” campaign which aims to raise awareness and contribute to the sustainable development of destinations in which it operates.

The group also focuses on creating units that highlight the local aesthetic, providing guests with the opportunity to experience authentic Greek hospitality with a focus on gastronomy.

Founded in 1956 in Mallorca, Spain, Melia Hotels International boasts a portfolio of more than 380 hotels in 40 countries under such brands as Gran Melia Hotels & Resorts, Paradisus by Melia, ME by Melia, Melia Hotels & Resorts, The Melia Collection, INNSiDE by Melia, Sol by Melia and Falcon’s Resorts by Melia as well as a portfolio of affiliated hotels as part of the “Affiliated by Melia” network.

Last year, the company said it would be expanding its activities to the Greek islands with the addition of three properties to its portfolio.
