Pieria in Northern Greece Introduces Itself as Exciting Tourist Destination

The regional unit of Pieria, the southern part of the Central Macedonia Region in northern Greece, is introducing itself to the world as a promising up-and-coming tourist destination.

On the initiative of the Pieria Hoteliers Association (PHA), local travel and hospitality stakeholders teamed up to showcase the region through a series of actions, including press and fam trips, collaborations for the promotion of Mt. Olympus, the development of alternative tourism options and road tourism and the inclusion of culture in the tourist experience.

This year, the association joined forces with the Olympus Festival which informed users through a QR code about all of Pieria’s sites, attractions, cultural happenings and hotels.

The latest action on behalf of the association was a press trip for crews and reporters from Romania who had the chance to visit the Enipeas Gorge, Litochoro, Platamon Castle, the traditional settlement of Palaios Panteleimonas, and the Olympus National Park Information Center.

Topping the agenda is establishing the area into a train destination. In this direction, the association welcomed the general commercial director of Hellenic Train (formerly TrainOSE), Roberto Biasin, who had the chance to experience Pieria. The two sides agreed to ensure easy access to Pieria from other parts of the country as well as promotional activities.

“It’s a huge gamble for our region to become a railway destination with palpable benefits, an increase in visitors as well as a longer tourist season which can happen by integrating Mt. Olympus and the rest of the mountainous and coastal part of Pieria into options available for the tourist market,” said Iraklis Tsitlakidis, PHA president.
