Greek Ports See Big Passenger Traffic Rise in January-March

Greek ports saw a 91.9 percent increase in total passenger traffic (domestic and international) during the first quarter of 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

The data is from ELSTAT’s latest survey on the traffic of passengers, goods and mobile units (vehicles) at Greek ports.

According to the data, 3,854,511 people traveled through Greek ports during the first three months of the year. Domestic passengers were up by 95.6 percent to 3,703,655 and international passengers rose 31.2 percent to 150,856, compared with January-March in 2021.

When comparing Q1 2021 with the first quarter of 2020, ELSTAT recorded a 46.8 percent decrease. During the first three months of 2020, Greek ports saw a total of 3,776,664 travelers while in 2021 the number dropped to 2,008,247 due to travel restrictions due to the pandemic.

With regard to the total movements of goods in Greek ports in the first quarter of 2022, the data showed an 8.6 percent decrease compared with the same period in 2021.

In addition, the total traffic of mobile units (vehicles) in Greek ports in the first three months of 2022 increased by 43.6 percent compared with the first quarter 2021.
