Certification Process Underway for Museums in Greece

The Greek Culture Ministry invites museums across the country to gain certification through the Greek Museum Recognition and Certification System which is now operational.

In efforts to introduce the program funded by EU ESPA funds as part of the government’s “Digital Transformation” drive,  the ministry’s Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage, responsible for the Recognition and Certification program, provides information on the new label.

“The program aims to help participating museums become more appealing, attract diverse audiences, became inclusive and accessible, serve the needs of all citizens, adapt and respond better to the multiple challenges of the modern era,” said Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni.

The certification process includes museum evaluation and identifying problem areas as well as points that need improvement. The ministry then acts as a facilitator, providing the know-how, tools and resources to help facilities address deficiencies and proceed with upgrades.

The “Recognized Museum” or “Certified Museum” label (depending on the legal status of each museum) is awarded to facilities that meet specific quality standards and apply good organizational and operational; practices.

Certification is renewed on a regular basis, the ministry said.
