Angsana Corfu Resort Shows Commitment to Sustainability in First Year of Operation

Angsana Corfu Resort & Spa

Since its successful opening on Corfu last summer, the Angsana Corfu Resort & Spa has carried out a number of activities to offset its environmental footprint, protect and preserve the environment.

The Angsana Corfu Resort & Spa is the first Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts property in Europe. Operated by the group’s upscale brand, Angsana, the hotel is south of Corfu Town and close to the picturesque Benitses village, perched on a hill overlooking the Ionian Sea.

Since its opening last year, the resort has completed many social projects, proving its care for the local community and the environment in which it operates. These include the following:

Sustainable operation

The hotel’s lighting system in all rooms, villas, central areas and personnel-only spaces features LED technology.

Angsana Corfu has adopted a zero plastic policy with reusable glasses and mugs also keeping waste at low levels.

In addition, the hotel has adopted a very thorough recycling policy in cooperation with the local community. Angsana Corfu recycles glass, paper, non-functioning electrical items, and kitchen oils.

Environmental protection

Committed to maintaining the island’s flourishing vegetation and crystal-clear waters, the hotel has planted 60 olive trees on its property.

The hotel’s villas feature rooftop gardens complete with greens and herbs that chefs incorporate in their dishes.

Furthermore, the property has held two cleanup events in the last six months; the first on Emerald beach and the second in Benitses.

Life-long education

The hotel has created a weekly schedule of children’s activities in cooperation with the Rangers’ Club, and launched the “eat as much as you can World Food Day” event that focuses on strict zero-waste policy.

Aiming to raise awareness on health issues, Angsana Corfu has held CPR & first aid classes as well as a blood donation drive and a seminar on breast cancer prevention and treatment.

Supporting local communities

During the Christmas holiday season, the Angsana Corfu Resort & Spa supported local communities with a number of charity events:

On December 22, the hotel’s management and staff served lunch to low-income families.

As Christmas drew closer, the resort invited children from a local orphanage to spend a day at the hotel, play games, sing carols and participate in a cooking class.

Before the new year, Angsana Corfu offered gifts to its young friends at the Corfu Special Education Center which helps children with down-syndrome.

The Angsana Corfu Resort & Spa announced that it will continue its social awareness activities into 2022.
