Athens Among World’s Most Beautiful Cities to Explore by Night

Athens is among the world’s most beautiful cities to explore by night, ranking third on a list recently released by Premier Inn, a leading UK-based hotel chain.

To compile the list, Premier Inn counted the number of Instagram posts which used the hashtags #[city]bynight for cities in the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand, Europe, Africa, South America and Asia.

Athens gathered a total of 182,000 Instagram hashtags for #Athensbynight.

Paris ranks first as the most popular city in the world and in Europe to visit after dark with over 1,000,000 hashtags for pictures of the city by night.

Following Paris is London ranking second on a global level with 231,000 hashtags. It is followed by Athens in third spot, Rome and Warsaw in fourth and fifth position, respectively.

Other key findings of the Premier Inn survey include:

– The Greek capital ranks second on the list of the most most popular cities in Europe to visit after dark. Thessaloniki – Greece’s second largest city – ranks 17th on the same list with 34,500 hashtags

– France is the most popular country in the world to explore after dark, with five cities featuring in the top 20: Paris, Lyon, Toulouse, Bordeaux and Marseille.

– Casablanca is the most beautiful city by night in Africa, with 25,800 hashtags

– Dubai and Tokyo also made the top 20 global cities with the most night-time hashtags

– New York is the only city in the US that made the top 20 of global cities, ranking 14th with over 50,000 hashtags.
