2022 Year in Review
As 2022 draws to a close, the Greek Travel Pages (GTP) has rounded up news stories related to Greek tourism that dominated the year. While post-Covid 2021 laid the foundations for tourism to achieve a greater normalcy, in 2022 the industry continued its way towards recovery with a much better performance recorded from spring onwards, once Covid-related travel restrictions began to ease.
Although the Greek Finance Ministry originally estimated revenue to add up to some 15 billion euros this year, the industry managed to achieve an additional 3 billion euros and this way reach some 18 billion euros, which is near pre-pandemic levels.
And while Greece’s tourism bodies have referred to 2022 as “the great comeback of Greek tourism”, they express cautious optimism for 2023 as developments are taking place during an extremely difficult time due to the Russia-Ukraine war, inflation and the energy crisis.
