Lufthansa to Launch Flight to Kalamata, Greece, from Munich in 2022

German airline Lufthansa recently announced that it will launch a new route connecting the Greek destination of Kalamata with Munich in May 2022.

Located in the Peloponnese, Kalamata has been included on Lufthansa’s summer 2022 flight schedule and will be one of the airline’s new vacation destinations next year from Munich, along with Menorca in Spain, Varna on the Black Sea, Billund in Denmark and Bergen in Norway.

The new service to Kalamata will operate once a week, every Saturday, from May 7 to October 29. The flight will depart Munich International Airport at 15:10, arriving at Kalamata International Airport at 18:30. The return flight will depart Kalamata at 19:20 and arrive in Munich at 20:55 (all times are local).

Lufthansa’s new service is expected to strengthen the local tourism market as Germany is one of Greece’s key source markets for incoming tourism.

It should be noted that Lufthansa’s announcement follows the holding of DRV’s (German Travel Association) annual conference last October at the luxury Costa Navarino resort in Messinia, Kalamata.

More than 3.7 million German travelers visited Greek destinations before the Covid-19 outbreak (2019) generating over 3 billion euros in revenues. This year, Germany once again was a leading source market for Greece.
