Greek authorities have updated the Covid Free Gr Wallet application offering users the opportunity to store identity information on their mobile phones and tablet devices, alongside Covid-19 certificates.
Launched in November, the Covid Free Gr Wallet app allows citizens to easily save Greek and European digital health certificates for vaccination, recovery and testing, as well as simplify verification procedures.
With the updated app citizens can create and store their own “ID certificate” with information including their first and last name, birth date and photo.
This means that -when requested – instead of showing their ID card, citizens will be able to provide identity information straight from the app and also have their Covid-19 certificates scanned.
Users can download the updated version of the app from the iOS and Android platforms on the website https://covidfree.gov.gr or from the App Store or Google Play.
Then they can store their ID info by selecting the button that says “Ταυτοπροσωπία” (identity) and then follow the instructions. Users will be required to enter their Taxisnet or web banking codes to complete the procedure.
It is reminded that citizens can save their Covid-19 certificates on the Covid Free Gr Wallet application by scanning their QR codes or by uploading them in a pdf format after downloading them from here or here.
The same procedure applies for recovery certificates and Covid-19 (PCR or rapid) test results.
It is noted that the identity certificate can only be used when ID information is requested during checks of Covid-19 vaccine certificates. It does not replace the actual identification card (issued by the Hellenic Police), nor is it a travel document.
