Greece’s Covid Travel Rules Most Searched For by UK Tourists in 2021

Greece and its Covid-19 travel regulations were the most searched for terms in 2021 by British vacationers who were eager to travel safely, according to Google data presented by the Independent this week.

Searches for Greece’s travel rules even outdid searches for restrictions that apply in the UK, according to data released by the global search engine this week.

Based on this data, “Greece travel restrictions” was the top search hit above “UK travel restrictions” and regulations in the US, Spain and Portugal.

Next in line in terms of Covid travel regulation searches were Italy, Scotland, France, Germany and Croatia, completing the top 10.

Some of the terms and destinations most searched for by British travelers in 2021, according to the Google report were: Greece travel restrictions, UK travel restrictions, US travel restrictions, Travel update UK, PCR test for travel, Caravan holidays, Travel green list, Greece travel restrictions.

Meanwhile, in August, Athens was the most searched for destination by potential travelers from the UK, US, and France, according to Tourix.

It should be noted that the UK is Greece’s second-largest inbound market after Germany and a traditional source market. On the sidelines of WTM London, Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias said Greece was expecting the number of tourists from the UK to increase by 35 percent in 2022. In pre-pandemic 2019, Greece welcomed some 3.6 million travelers from the UK.
