Two Parks for Dogs Open in Athens

The Municipality of Athens has opened two dog parks in the areas of Probonas and Neos Kosmos offering pet owners areas to take their four-legged friends for off-leash exercise and play in a secure environment.

According to Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis, the two parks offer pet owners and their dogs the opportunity to enjoy their walks any time of the day.

Located in Probonas and at Ovreovits Square, the parks feature separate zones for small and large dogs, ensuring safety during off-leash play.

“Our intention is to turn Athens into a pet-friendly city. These two modern parks are just the beginning. We aim to create more dog parks in the city’s neighborhoods and give pets the ideal circumstances to play and learn,” Bakoyannis said.

Exercise and playtime

Besides being places for Athens’ dogs to run and play, the parks also offer pets the chance to socialize and train. They include climbing ramps, wooden ascending/descending corridors and wooden obstacles for dogs of all sizes.

The parks are fenced and feature double gates to ensure that dogs remain in the park at all times.

They also include water stations to keep the dogs hydrated, benches and areas for shade during the hot months.

The parks also have extra lighting during the evening hours for safety reasons.
