The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) in Athens is inviting residents and visitors to experience its “Christmas World” and celebrate the start of the holiday season, during an event scheduled to take place in its premises on December 1.

During the event, SNFCC will illuminate its premises including the areas of the Agora and the Canal.

“Numerous festive lights will turn on to illuminate the plane trees of the Canal and the decorated firs of the Agora,” the SNFCC said in an announcement.

The evening’s host, Greek actor Dimitris Kouroumbalis, will welcome SNFCC’s visitors to the area of the Agora for a festive event full of music with El Sistema Greece, the community music project offering free music education to children and young people, and pop/rock music band Onirama.

Impressive light installations

The SNFCC also invites visitors to discover the freedom of play and the boundaries between light, color and movement through its Christmas interactive installations.

Four light art installations of prominent Greek and foreign artists will decorate the areas of the Great Lawn, the Pine Grove, the Dome and the Planted Rooms.

These include the Aqueous by Jen Lewin; the Firefly Field by Studio Toer; the Living Latern by Neon and the Crop Circles by Beforelight.

The Center’s Ice Rink will also be ready to welcome its first skaters as of December 10. Located on the north side of the Canal, the Ice Rink will, once again, offer a unique view of the canal’s Dancing Fountains.

Festivities at SNFCC will continue throughout holiday season, while the center will hold a number of special events on December 31, to welcome the New Year.

These include ice skating until late at night, impressive fireworks, a DJ Party in the Market and the “SNF Run: 2022 First Run”, the foundation’s running event that every year attracts thousands of visitors of all ages from Athens and beyond.
