Greece Among Top Mediterranean Tourism Destinations for Germans
Greece together with Spain, Turkey and Egypt won over German tourists this summer with demand still strong, according to booking platform ANIXE.
More specifically, according to the ANIXE Insights report, in July, German travelers vacationed mainly in Greece, Spain and Turkey, whose share of total bookings on ANIXE Resfinity platform far exceeded 2019 demand.
Encouraged by a milder Covid-19 wave and by vaccination rollouts, German vacationers selected Rhodes and Heraklion this summer as well as Palma Mallorca, Antalya, Istanbul and Hurghada in Egypt.
According to the report, September too was strong, marking a monthly 8.5 percent increase in bookings.
The report’s analysts note that activity in August and September made up for a slowdown in July globally. International travel recovered 72 percent of September 2019 volume, while in Germany, activity levels reached 80 percent of August and September 2019 levels.
In September, the most popular destinations for German travelers were Hurghada, Istanbul, Side, Rome and Berlin.
In terms of preferences, Germans prefer week-long trips while online meetings have now replaced business travel,
Overall, data from ANIXE’s Resfinity platform indicates that though travelers have more confidence and feel a bit safer, they are still reluctant to book trips more than one month in advance opting instead for last-minute trips and those with a much longer time to departure.
However, the report concludes that tourism recovery is not temporary, and that the “upcoming pandemic waves will no longer paralyze us”.
