Travel Giant TUI Schedules First Greece Arrivals in March 2022

Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias (C) with TUI Group CFO Sebastian Ebel (L) and Thomas Ellerbeck, member of the Group Executive Committee and group director Corporate & External Affairs TUI Group.

Travel giant TUI on Tuesday agreed with Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias to schedule the first tourist arrivals to Greek destinations in March 2022.

Kikilias met in Athens with Sebastian Ebel, TUI Group CFO, and Thomas Ellerbeck, member of the Group Executive Committee and group director Corporate & External Affairs TUI Group, to discuss future collaborations in tourism.

Ebel and Ellerbeck confirmed that Greece was one of TUI’s most important destinations and said the group was aiming to exceed the 3-million visitor target achieved in pre-pandemic 2019.

They also discussed the possibility of setting up a TUI Academy in Athens. The academy offers opportunities to vulnerable young people through vocational and life skills training in the tourism sector.

Cooperation on issues of sustainability through the TUI Care Foundation as well as its activities on Crete also topped the agenda of talks. TUI is currently helping integrate local fishing activity into the genuine tourist experience.

Kikilias briefed Ebel and Ellerbeck on the growing potential of Athens as year-round destination with a focus on spring and fall. The minister agreed to schedule a meeting with Athens and Attica stakeholders for possible partnerships with TUI in this direction.

Headquartered in Germany, TUI Group is the world’s leading integrated tourism group operating in more than 100 destinations worldwide. The company includes more than 400 hotels and resorts – with premium brands such as RIU, TUI Blue and Robinson – in its portfolio.

I don’t understand the above comment about Tui starting to come to Greek destinations in 2022. I have just come back from Corfu and there were lots of Tui planes coming and going every day (as well as Ryanair, ad many others).
