Greece Accommodation Businesses See July 2021 Turnover Soar

Greek accommodation enterprises were back on track in July, recording nearly 1 billion euros in turnover – quadruple 2020 levels, according to monthly data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT)

F&B services providers also welcomed an increase in revenue in July driven by strong inbound tourist flows. 

More specifically, July 2021 turnover for businesses active in accommodation obliged to double-entry bookkeeping rose by 230.3 percent to 933,876,381 euros against 282,751,639 euros in the same month last year. 

Of the regional units with a contribution to total 2020 turnover greater than 1.0 percent, Mykonos led the way in July recording a 622.5 percent increase over the same month last year. The smallest rise was recorded in the regional unit of Kos, up by 161.7 percent compared to 2020.

Accommodation services providers posted 361.08 million euros in turnover in June this year. 

Looking at F&B services providers obliged to double-entry bookkeeping, turnover in July 2021 grew by 42.8 percent to 181,898,778 euros compared to 127,414,844 euros in July 2020.

The regional unit of Thira (Santorini) recorded the highest increase by 164.0 percent, with the regional unit of Thessaloniki recording the smallest increase at 1.8 percent. Overall turnover in Larissa decreased by 6.2 percent.

In the second quarter of 2021, Greek accommodation services providers saw turnover increase by 452.3 percent to 596,430,723 euros against 107,999,937 euros in Q2 2020.
