A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday for the Athens Capital Hotel-MGallery Collection, a member of the MGallery Hotel Collection of Accor, which features 177 luxury rooms and suites, three restaurants, works of art by Greek artists and warm Greek hospitality with a distinctly cosmopolitan twist.

Athens Capital Hotel is the first MGallery Collection hotel in Greece and represents both a new era of high-end hospitality in downtown Athens and a key development for the multinational Accor Group, as Greece increasingly becomes a strategic site for global interest and investment.

“Greece is a highly-valued and strategic destination for our Group,” Accor Chairman & CEO Sébastien Bazin said during the ceremony which was attended by figures from the business, political and tourism sectors to the ceremony.

The Athens Capital Hotel – MGallery is housed in an impressive structure that dates back to 1959, in Syntagma Square, the most historic square of Athens.

“Its raw natural beauty, ancient and contemporary culture, and famed passion for hospitality make it a perfect match for Accor’s corporate values,” Bazin added and referred to Accor’s partnership with  LAMPSA Hellenic Hotels of the Laskaridis family.

A member of LAMPSA Hellenic Hotels, the Athens Capital Hotel – MGallery is the third hotel of the Laskaridis family in the Greek capital, now a peer to the iconic Hotel Grande Bretagne and Hotel King George on Syntagma Square.

“Emerging from what has been one of the most challenging periods in recent history for our industry, the significance of this new collaboration cannot be overstated. Athens Capital Hotel – MGallery Collection is a new breath of life for our city’s contemporary development,” LAMPSA Hellenic Hotels Executive Chairwoman Chloe A. Laskaridis said.

She added that the opening of the hotel is also a special moment for LAMPSA, as it coincides with the Group’s celebration of 100 years of high-end hospitality.

“It is a privilege to commemorate this milestone with the launch of a dynamic new project alongside Accor,” Laskaridis said.

The MGallery Hotel Collection brand thoughtfully selects and curates unique properties around the world, forming a storied collection of boutique hotels with true soul where captivating stories are lived and shared.

“When we began to craft the ethos of the MGallery Collection, uniqueness, creativity and authenticity took centre stage. In that regard, Athens is the obvious choice as the home of a MGallery hotel,” Accor Southern Europe CEO Maud Bailly said.

With more than 100 properties, each MGallery tells a unique story inspired by its own remarkable past or the destination it calls home.

“This city vibrates with life, energy and art – both old and new – and we are thrilled to be the latest addition to its cultural landscape. It’s a true honor to be joining forces once again with such esteemed collaborators – beginning a new chapter in Greece and working together to write more Stories That Stay,” Bailly added.

Athens Capital Hotel – MGallery Collection marks LAMPSA Hellenic Hotels’ second collaboration with Accor, the first being the Mercure Excelsior Hotel in Belgrade.

Accor is a world leading hospitality Group consisting of more than 5,100 properties and 10,000 food and beverage venues throughout 110 countries.
