Petition Launched to Add Greece to Disney World’s Epcot Center

The Hellenic Electronics Center (HEC) has launched an online petition aimed at garnering support for the addition of Greece to the Disney World Epcot Center World Showcase.

The Epcot World Showcase theme park that attracts millions of visitors each year currently hosts 11 pavilions, those of Canada, the UK, France, Morocco, Japan, Italy, Germany, China, Norway, Mexico, and The American Adventure.

Disney has not added a new pavilion in the last 33 years. The last additions were Morocco in 1984 and Norway in 1988.

So far, more than 3,500 people have signed the petition calling for Greece to become the next Disney World Showcase pavilion. Other ‘contenders’ being considered include Brazil featuring Rio di Janeiro and South Korea.

Disney is aiming with the new addition to attract more tourists to Walt Disney World Resort.

For the time being, Covid-19 has forced the entertainment company to shut down or postpone a series of projects, including the addition of the Mary Poppins Cherry Tree Lane to the UK pavilion.

Meanwhile, indicative of Greece’s popularity, Greek cuisine is often served at the annual Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.

HEC is a volunteer, non-profit, non-partisan organization founded in 1995 with the goal of promoting Greek culture and establishing a network among Hellenes, philhellenes, and Greek organizations worldwide. It also provides free computer services and technical support to non-profit Greek organizations and projects.

We need Greece to be represented. It’s a culture like no other. The food is also a very well liked by many cultures including Americans, Europeans, and Mediterraneans and others all over the world. The food is healthy and delicious. Aside from the food, Greek culture goes back thousands of years and it’s history is very interesting. The country’s beauty is second to none!
