Greece Adds Major Tourism Projects to ‘Strategic’ Investments Plan
A major tourism investment project slated to go up in North Afantou, on the island of Rhodes, received the green light this week after authorities agreed to incorporate it in the government’s strategic investments program which foresees fast-track procedures.
The project involves the creation of a 5-star, 320-room hotel at Afantou with an eligible budget of 38 million euros.
Additionally, Greece’s directorate-general for private investment under the General Secretariat for Private Investment and Public-Private Partnerships also approved 5- and 4-star tourism investment projects planned for Lefkada, Mykonos and Gytheio, adding these also to the government’s strategic investments program.
These are: Cavo Tagoo SA – a 5-star, 13 suite facility at Tagoo Mykonos with a total eligible budget of 4.7 million euros; Sparta Gourmet SA – the creation of a 5-star, 150-room hotel at Gytheio, Eastern Mani, with an eligible budget of 12.8 million euros; and GPG Resort Ltd Greek Branch – a 4-star, 140-room hotel unit on Lefkada with an eligible budget of 11.9 million euros.
The four projects are expected to create dozens of jobs during and after construction as well as contribute to the local economies.
Earlier this month, Elivi Hotels received the green light to proceed with a 52-million-euro strategic tourism investment on the island of Skiathos.
