The emergency restrictions imposed on the island of Kalymnos to curb the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) were lifted on Monday, May 24, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection said in an announcement.

The restrictions had been imposed on May 5 after a spike in infections.

“Kalymnos went through a difficult ordeal. From Monday, the island gradually returns to normalcy after the great effort made by its residents all this time – we thank them for their patience and perseverance, as we thank all the local bodies for their cooperation and commitment to the faithful observance of the measures,” Greek Civil Protection Deputy Minister Nikos Hardalias said.

He advised island residents to be twice as careful and avoid any gatherings that may cause trouble on the island again.

“Let us protect the tourism season that is beginning, the local economy, but above all our health and that of others,” Hardalias said.
