Greek Tourism Minister Goes to England to Discuss Summer Travel
Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis on Monday departed for London days before Greece officially opens its gates to tourists.
Theoharis is scheduled to meet with senior government officials and representatives of airlines and executives from the UK tourism market and promote the opening of Greek tourism for 2021.
More specifically, the Greek tourism minister has a scheduled meeting with Nigel Adams, the Minister for Asia at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
According to an announcement by the Greek Tourism Ministry, the two ministers will discuss the terms of lifting travel restriction between England and Greece in the near future.
Theoharis will also meet with senior executives of Great Britain’s three leading airlines, namely British Airways, easyJet and Jet2.
“These three air carriers serve millions of tourists every year and the frequency of their itineraries to our country is of utmost importance, both practically and symbolically, as it is proof of the trust shown in Greece as a safe destination,” the tourism ministry said.
It is reminded that the United Kingdom is one of the largest tourist markets for Greek tourism. Indicatively, from England, Greece in 2019 welcomed some 3.5 million visitors.
While in London, Theoharis will also meet with Noel Josephides, board member of the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) and chairman of the Travel Foundation.
The Greek tourism minister’s agenda in England also includes a series of interviews in British media, including BBC, Sky News, The Telegraph, etc.. He will also have a special meeting with Greek correspondents in London.
The minister’s visit to England is part of an awareness-raising effort ahead of Greece’s official opening to tourists with no quarantine requirement for vaccinated travelers or those with a negative PCR test.
Fully agree with the above comment I have a second home in Crete and the above rules will lessen my ability to spend on the island as much as I’d like to.
English people love Greece and many of us are lucky enough to have a home in the country .. We would spend more time and money in the country if we weren’t restricted to the 90 day / 180 day visiting allowance in the Shenzhen region . If you could make a simple change to 180/360 then we could live your wonderful country and it’s people and businesses even more !!
