Angela Gerekou Appointed to Advisory Board of World Tourism Forum Institute

The World Tourism Forum Institute (WTFI) has welcomed Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) President Angela Gerekou to its advisory board.

Based in London, the WTFI is a research institute that supports sustainable and universally accessible tourism.

“It is an honour for me to be part of the advisory board of the World Tourism Forum Institute next to such an important executive council and important board members. I am deeply committed to its mission for a resilient future in the tourism industry,” Gerekou said.

The WTFI is the mother organization of Global Tourism Forum (GTF), an international collaboration platform focused on addressing the challenges for the travel industry. Combining the joint efforts of government agencies, industry stakeholders and academia, GTF strives to achieve sustainable development models for emerging travel markets, as well as devising strategies to ensure tourism growth.

The WTFI’s executive council includes Bulut Bagci (president), Sumaira Isaacs (CEO), Taleb Rifai (general secretary) and Barış Kahrıman (board member).

“I look forward for this exchange with this unique team to continue to shine a light on the most important issues of the world most valuable social economic cultural sector and of course an important sector for our country such as the travel industry,” the GNTO’s president added.

Born and raised on the Greek island of Corfu, Gerekou has been president of the GNTO since August 2019. She is an Ambassador for Tourism in ICC Hellas and a honorable member for Hellenic association women in culture and tourism.
