Greece Opens Call for ‘Quarantine Hotels’

The Greek Tourism Ministry recently opened a call for expressions of interest for tourist accommodation enterprises on six islands to offer their facilities for Covid-19 isolation purposes this season.

The call for expressions of interest is part of the Greek government’s efforts to deal with coronavirus-related public health emergencies in view of the upcoming tourism season.

According to the call for interest, the ministry is interested in setting up quarantine hotels on the islands of Santorini, Mykonos, Corfu, Rhodes, Kos and Crete (Heraklion and Chania) as a precaution.

Tourist accommodation enterprises, such as hotels and furnished apartments/rooms, of two-star/two-key category and over will qualify. Their facilities must offer food services. Interested enterprises must have received the special “Health First” certificate and will be obliged to follow the government’s strict health protocols as well as special instructions for quarantine spaces.

Enterprises that are selected to be used as quarantine hotels will receive 45 euros per day for each room used as a quarantine space for positive Covid-19 cases (and an infected person’s close contacts) and 15 euros per day for rooms that remain empty.
