Greek Authorities Approve Halkidiki Waterway

Miraggio Thermal Spa Resort, Halkidiki

A waterway in Halkidiki, northern Greece, that will cater to seaplane transport was approved this week by the Greek Navy, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority and the shipping ministry.

More specifically, Greek authorities approved a waterway to be constructed at the Miraggio Thermal Spa Resort in the area of Kanistro in Kassandra, after Med Sea Ηealth SA submitted an application. The project will be undertaken by Water Airports, one of the companies pushing for the launch of waterway/seaplane operations across Greece.

According to the decision, the company will be allowed to carry out six daily return flights per sea plane company. Flights can be carried out from licensed water aerodromes or airports.

“I am very pleased because, with this approval, a dream we have for the wider region of Halkidiki has come true. Miraggio will be the first entrance gate from this year and, this beginning will be a milestone for tourism in Greece in general,” said Alexandros Giannakidis, CEO at Med Sea Health SA.

“Destinations such as Halkidiki will be more easily accessible, while visitors who are here will be able to fly to an island for an excursion, for a few extra days of vacation or vice versa,” he added.

Water Airports SA Founder and President Tasos Govas said the “approval of the first water way is a very important development as it will be the ‘pilot’ for the authorization of a waterway network across strategic points which are major tourist attractions”.

Govas went on to add that waterways will provide direct access to tourist resorts, beautiful but inaccessible beaches, popular coastal and lakeside areas, places of interest, and pave the way for synergies.

“This development will result in the creation of a new market that will further develop quality tourism,” he concluded.

wow that is something new. I was for the last time in Hanoti in 1973 where friends of mine have a home. I hope the nature and beauty of the place has not been damaged. The water is so calm and warm and wonderful for children.
