A Message for International Women’s Day by Greek Travel Pages (GTP) Publisher and CEO, Maria Theofanopoulou
On occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8, GTP Headlines invites women in Greek tourism, decision-makers, insiders, and passionate professionals, to step up to the challenge and… choose to challenge.
This year’s message – #chooseToChallenge – comes to highlight the unprecedented challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic for the industry, for the traveler, and for society as a whole.
There is no doubt about it, Covid-19 disrupted all we know about travel and tourism, and yet historically, disruption has always created opportunities and great potential for systemic change.
Instead of looking back, we are now called upon to look forward. Covid-19 has forced us to change all those things we took for granted and start over, creating a sustainable and resilient future.
Our goal is through joint projects such as this to bring female voices to the podium: women who have demonstrated that they can influence decision making and contribute responsibly to the construction of new reality in tourism and travel.
With these female voices we wish to celebrate and to inspire all women in tourism and travel, and beyond. They are the voice of the future and united we can all bring about the change we so desire.
That said, I would like to thank all the women in Greece’s tourism and travel sector who are here with us today, sending out a powerful message of cohesion, vision, and leadership.
Each and every female professional here has – at the forefront or behind the scenes – taken action and faced the challenges of the times, playing a decisive role in defining the Greek tourism industry and tirelessly promoting Greece abroad.
“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights,” said Gloria Steinem, feminist, journalist and activist.
Undeniably, now more than ever, women have a strong voice and a very important role to play to drive Destination Greece into the new era.
Ladies, welcome on board! Let’s make the difference.
