Astypalea’s Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel Wins Green Award 2020

The Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel, located on the Greek island of Astypalea, has received two distinctions at the Green Awards 2020.

Honored for its ongoing sustainability program named “Kallichoron Goes Green”, the hotel received the platinum award in the “Green Services” category and the gold award in the “Green Accommodation Service” category.

The Green Awards 2020 were organized for the first time by Boussias Communications under the auspices of the Panhellenic Association of Chemical Engineers and the Hellenic Association of Graduate Environmentalists, with the support of HSBC and Klorane.

“This double distinction is one more recognition of the high-level quality services Kallichoron offers to the visitors of Astypalea. It also encourages us to continue our effort to promote Astypalea as a sustainable tourism destination, always respecting its authentic character,” said Maria Mavroudi, co-founder of Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel.

Kallichoron holds the “Green Key” eco-label. It supports innovation, while its operation is based on the principles of sustainable tourism, green and responsible entrepreneurship and social offering that enable travelers to taste authentic Greek hospitality with the minimum possible environmental footprint.

Launched in 2015, the hotel’s “Kallichoron Goes Green” environmental program focuses on saving natural resources through the adoption of environmental criteria and green practices in perfect balance with the natural environment of Astypalea.

Furthermore, Kallichoron promotes programs and actions aimed at reducing its energy footprint, and invests in the continuous training of its staff.

“There is a clear trend in the tourism industry for enterprises that are based on a sustainable model of operation with environmental and social sensititivity. Travelers are not only looking for a place to stay, but for an overall experience that will not affect the environment, and allow them to socialize with the locals, and get familiar with the island and its traditions. For us, this is a way of life,” said Carolina Alkalai, co-founder and sustainability officer of Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel.
