Lloyd’s List: Michael Sakellis Named ‘Greek Shipping Newsmaker of the Year’
The president of the Greek Shipowners Association for Passenger Ships (SEEN), Michael Sakellis, was honored with the title of “Greek Shipping Newsmaker of the Year” at the first virtual edition of the Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Awards for 2020.
Organized by Lloyd’s List, the provider of international shipping information since 1734, the annual awards took place online on December 4 and honored leading names in the Greek shipping industry.
According to SEEN, the “Greek Shipping Newsmaker of the Year” title is the only award offered by the authors of Lloyd’s List and was given to Sakellis for his significant role in the efforts being made to keep Greek coastal shipping afloat amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
“SEEN has managed to offer its services and confront the crisis caused by the pandemic… Our ships offered excellent services throughout the year. We have also managed to highlight the importance of shipping services, not only for the economy, but also for the protection of our national and European interests,” Sakellis said after receiving the award.
The Greek Shipowners Association for Passenger Ships this year celebrates 100 years of operation.
Its mission is to contribute to the development of Greek passenger shipping companies and services in Greece, and boost the sector’s competitiveness in the European and international markets.
