The Vouliagmeni marina, located south of Athens’ center, is set to undergo major upgrade works with the aim to attract super and mega yachts, the Tourism Ministry said in announcement on Thursday.

Located on the southeast coast of the Vouliagmeni peninsula, the marina has a marine area of approximately 110,000 square meters and a land area covering some 52,000 square meters.

The announced revamp project foresees the upgrade of the marina’s port and land infrastructure.

According to the ministry, once works are complete, the marina will have a mooring capacity of 59 super and mega yachts.

Works in marine, land areas

The renovation works in the marina’s marine area will include the reconstruction and extension of the leeward pier, the extension of the windward pier, the installation of permanent mooring anchors and the reforming of the helicopter landing / take-off site.

The marina’s land area, which will be separated in three sections, will see interventions in two sections, for the protection and restoration of the natural landscape and the urban green area. The area’s third section, which will host the marina’s operational facilities, will see the development of necessary infrastructure, covering a space of up to 4,700 square meters. These works will include:

– The arrangement of the surrounding area of the buildings and the rest of the land area.
– The rearrangement of the internal road network and parking system, including an underground parking area of 8,000 square meters.
– The construction of a fuel station for the collection of sewage and oily residue.
– The construction of an underground connection – exclusively for pedestrians and light vehicles – with the nearby hotel complex of Astir Palace.

The project also foresees the reconstruction of the marina’s electromechanical installations and networks, its buildings and other infrastructure included in the land area.

“The complete revamp of the Vouliagmeni marina, one of the most privileged in Attica, is part of a wider development plan for the Athenian Riviera. The new marina will upgrade the quality of the region’s tourism profile and strengthen the local economy by attracting high-income tourists,” the tourism ministry said.

The ministry’s announcement followed the signing of a joint ministerial decision by the ministers of Tourism, Harry Theoharis; Environment, Kostis Hatzidakis; and Culture, Lina Mendoni, which determines the project’s location and environmental conditions.
