Greece to Map Covid-19 Level of Burden in Regions

Greek Civil Protection Deputy Minister Nikos Hardalias announced that the government will soon launch a safety map that will assess the epidemiological burden of each Greek region in order to control the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) throughout the country.

Aiming to protect public health, the safety map will include four levels that will help determine if local Covid-19 restrictive measures are required to be taken in a region.

Referring to the safety map during Tuesday’s Covid-19 media briefing, Hardalias explained that the levels would be:

Level 1: Preparedness
Level 2: Monitoring
Level 3: Increased monitoring
Level 4: Increased risk

The level of risk in each region will be determined by epidemiological indicators, such as the number of cases per 10,000 inhabitants.

The health safety map will be updated every 15 days on the recommendations of Greece’s special committee of infectious disease specialists or any time it may be required according to the epidemiological indicators of an area.

Hardalias said that the map will be available on covid19.gov.gr, the official website with information on the measures taken by the Greek government for Covid-19.

Further information will be announced on Friday, October 9.

Greek health authorities on Tuesday announced 399 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 20,541. The Covid-19 death toll in Greece has reached 420.
